98 Chibok schoolgirls still in Boko Haram captivity – Army 




About 98 Chibok schoolgirls  out of the 276 abducted by the Boko Haram terrorists on April 14, 2014 are  still in captivity with the insurgents in Sambisa forest.



Head of  Military Intelligence Unit Joint Task Force (JTF)  Operation Hadin kai, Theater Commander Headquarters, Maiduguri , Col Obinna Ezuipke, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the theater command headquarters, Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri.



According to him, “Out of the 276 abducted Chibok girls, 57 girls escaped in 2014 while 107 girls were released in 2018. Three girls were recovered in 2019, two in 2021 and 9 were rescued in 2022, bringing the total to 178 girls, thus remaining 98 in Boko Haram captivity.”



He said the  statistics of activities of troops of the Operation Hadin Kai in August 2022 showed a  total of 43 Boko Haram  terrorists neutralised,  24 others arrested while  over 100 insurgents were killed  between August and September 2022.


He added that various weapons, arms and ammunitions were recovered to include 129 AK-47 rifles; 1,515 rounds of ammunitions; 16 FN rifles, 3 MG, and  17 grenades among others during the period. 


Ezuipke  further disclosed  that the  Nigerian military encountered 26 different attacks from the Boko Haram  terrorists  where in the process, 2  soldiers  lost their lives and  9 others sustained various degrees of injury during the attacks.


He explained also that the military carried out a total of 2,726 patrols and 982 ambushes against the Boko Haram terrorists during the period under review and  from June 2022 to date, a total of 113 people who are suppliers of fuel, food, fertilisers and other logistics to the  Boko Haram terrorists have been arrested.
