9,800 Zamfara patients with eye defects receive free treatment

Zamfara state government has concluded arrangement to render free eye treatment and special clinical operation services to over 9,800 people suffering from eyes problems across the state.
Speaking at the formal flag up of the free eye treatment held at King Fahad Women and Children Hospital in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital yesterday, state Commissioner for Local governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bello Dankade Gamji said each of thec14 local government areas will treat 700 patients during the exercise.
A total of 1400 patients will be given clinical eye operations across the 14 local government areas while the remaining 8400 selected patients will be given some drugs, glasses as they have minor site problems during the exercise across the state.
Dankade further stated that assorted eye treatment drugs worth millions of naira had been procured under the programme for distribution to beneficiaries free of charge during the treatment exercise to be supervised by Eye Saver initiative scheme.
The commissioner called on personnel handling the exercise to be God fearing citizens while exercising the assignment given to them, saying anyone found wanting, especially by diverting the drugs or selling, would be dealt with irrespective of his background in the state.
Speaking while addressing the benefiting patients during the formal flag up of the treatment, the project director of Eye Saver and Blindness Control, Dr. Kamal Umar, described the exercise as routine while urging the selected benefiting patients to remain calm as everyone would be treated.
