9th ASAN/NIAS annual meeting’ll review challenges facing animal husbandry in Nigeria – Registrar

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), Prof. Eustace Ayamere Iyayi has revealed that the forthcoming 9th joint annual ASAN/NIAS meeting will seek to address issues and challenges facing animal husbandry in Nigeria.

Iyayi while addressing the press on Thursday in Abuja said the growth of Nigeria animal husbandry industry has been stunted, aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic and lack of necessary support structure over the years compared to other aspects of agricultural practices, despite the large number of trained Animal Scientists.

He said the value of the industry currently in Nigeria stands at about N13 trillion, adding that the huge potential in the sector provides employment opportunities for the youth and also engenders economic rebirth.

He said the meeting with the theme: ‘Improved Technology: A Key Strategy for Enhanced Livestock Productivity and National Economic Development,” which was scheduled to be from 1st to 4th of November before has been moved forward to 15th to 18th of the same month because of the Nationwide protests and resultant security challenges.
