9th Senate: Gombe APC drums support for Goje

A Chieftain and Publicity Secretary of All Progressive Party (APC) in Gombe State, Na’omi Joel Awak, has appealed to the elected Senators to back Senator Mohammed Danjuma for the position of the Senate President.

Na’omi who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Gombe on Friday, said Senators Ali Ndume, Borno State and Ahmed Lawan of Yobe State cannot match the former Gombe State Governor in terms of political qualifications for the plum Senate seat.

According to her, “Senator Danjuma Goje is not only a powerful figure in Gombe politics but a political force to be reckoned with in the power equation of the North-east geo-political zone.”

She said Goje was a grassroots politician having won elections for state assembly in the former Bauchi state and rose to the position of a state governor for eight uninterrupted years.

The APC Spokesperson in Gombe said one of the greatest leadership qualities bestowed on Goje was his political patriotism to APC and his ability to keep the party intact despite daunting challenges in other states.

She said, “Goje is capable of leading the Senate because he was able to lead the party in Gombe state to capture power convincingly from the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general elections.

On the party’s position at the national level to support Ahmed Lawan, Mrs Na’omi said, “as a party loyalist and obedient daughter, I’m only appealing that the party and the elected Senators look the way of Senator Goje. I’m convinced that he is the man capable of doing the job well and who will protect the integrity of the party, the country and the President of the country.

“I know the Senators, especially those returning, know him better and I’m sure if given the opportunity, they will all rally support for Goje because we are aware of the goodwill and reputation he has with his colleagues. We are talking of a great Senate that will also be taking Nigeria to the next level in terms of good legislation.”
