Uneasy calm as jealous dog hacks 26-day-old twin babies to death

A woman simply identified as Katerine Novais has lost her twin babies, 26 days after giving birth to them.

The twins were reportedly mauled to death by a pet dog in Brazil.

Report says the mother of the dead babies stepped out to see a neighbour, only to return and heard the baby girls Anne and Analú crying after a huge harm had been caused in her own bedroom.

The Labrador and American foxhound cross-breed dog brutally attacked the girls.

Novais who saw some part of the ugly incident pulled the jealous dog away from the twins. Before then, it had already inflicted fatal damage on the babies abdomen.

A nurse who lived nearby performed first aid on the twins. One however, died instantly from her injuries and the other later died at Maria Pedreira Barbosa municipal hospital after going into cardiac arrest.

The devastated mother reportedly collapsed from the shock after the death of her babies and she had to be resuscitated at the hospital.

Novais and her husband Regis, 32, had been childless for almost a decade before she eventually conceived.

The dog, described as “docile”, is believed to have become jealous after not receiving as much attention since the birth of the babies.

A family member claimed the dog “was left out in a way, and it no longer had the attention and affection that its owners provided before,” according to The Sun.

“That could have caused some kind of jealousy and led the dog to attack the children.”
