Ex-Katsina assembly aspirant appeals to Buhari on ‘arbitrary check points’

A former Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) aspirant to the Katsina state House of Assembly, Hon. Hamisu Yusuf (Sa’in Jibia), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to assist Jibia local government area in its quest to attract food supply to the area.

According to him, security agents have raised over 20 check points on the Katsina to Jibia which has discouraged traders from supplying foodstuff the residents of Jibia.

He made the call on Friday in a chat with Blueprint Weekend in Abuja.

He said, “I call on the President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the decision of security agents to mount over 20 check points on the road from Katsina to Jibia local government area of the state. This, to say the least, has discouraged traders from supplying foodstuff to Jibia people. Are we not part of Nigeria? In Katsina town, maize is sold at N400 while in Jibia it goes for N450.

“Traders supply timber sheets, maize, cement, millet, flour mill, fruits, vegetables, sugar, spaghetti, macaroni, yam, beans, pure water, minerals, and even fabric materials. It is on record that my people accounted for over 30, 000 votes for the all Progressives Congress (APC) during the last 2019 general elections.’

Continuing, he said, “A lorry driver can spend about N30, 000 to bribe to security agents before they are allowed into Jibia from Katsina town; this has resulted in an increase in the prices of commodities in Jibia.

He, therefore, appealed to the federal government led by President Buhari to intervene in the matter to save Jibia people from starving.
