How girl, 14, fell from 5 storey building in Anambra – Activist

A 14-year-old girl, Miss Ijeoma Nwafor, narrowly escaped death, Saturday June 2, 2022, after she fell off fourth floor of a five storey building and landed on a fence loaded with security nails, at Awada, Onistha in Anambra State.

Nwafor said to be a maid, reportedly felled off the building around 1:15pm while being abused by her guardian, and the incident left her body injured as the security nails pierced into her body.

According to an activist, Mrs Ify Unachukwu, traders and other people around the area saw her when she fell and pulled her from the nails and rushed her to Christ Will Hospital in the same compound.

“Tragedy was averted this afternoon around 1:15pm as God saved a girl from untimely death. The child Ijeoma by name fell from fourth floor of a five story building at No 43 Utu Street Awada and landed on a fence loaded with security nails.

“According to an eye witness she was being badly beaten by her mistress who people complained is notorious in maltreating her house helps. In her efforts to escape from the mistress she fell from the fourth floor. Police officers and men from Awada Divisional Police Station responded to the distress call and took the child to another hospital,” she stated.

Confirming the report, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the police have arrested the suspect, Mrs Nnenna Onwanna.

“The Anambra State Police Operatives at about 4pm on 2/7/2022 have arrested one Mrs Onwanna Nnenna F age 29yrs old from Nando, Anambra East on a case of attempted murder that happen at Otu street, Awada Onitsha. Preliminary information shows that the victim, one miss Ijeoma Nwafor F 14year old, native of Achalla was pushed down from a four storey building by the suspect, when she was beating her.

“Other details reveals that the victim is a house help to the suspect. Meanwhile, Mrs Nnenna is currently in Police custody and the victim, receiving treatment in a hospital. Further development shall be communicated please,” he said.
