A/Ibom: Oil coy empowers host communities

A multinational oil company, Moni Pulo Limited has empowered its host communities in Mbo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom state.

The two communities who benefitted from the gesture on Friday in Uyo are Effiat and Mbo communities.

Speaking, the Chief Executive of Moni Pulo Limited, Dr. Seiye Lulu-Briggs, noted that the gesture became necessary to ensure transformation of the communities while sustainably catalyzing personal and communal growth.

The chairman represented by her Head of Administration and Community Relations, Mr. Alabo Clifford, noted that despite the challenges, the company has continued to invest in the well-being of the host communities.

“This is the 12th cycle of our Community Empowerment Programme, and it is designed to empower 70 business start-ups from within Mbo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State.

“We have a passion for transforming communities and catalyzing personal and communal growth in a sustainable manner, which is why corporate social responsibility is a core corporate value that we cherish.

“We have done and will continue to do this because we know that ultimately our work is about people, the men, women, youth, and children of Mbo and Effiat.

The state Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development, Dr. John Etim, commended the oil company for its numerous scholarship awards and empowerment for the host communities.

Etim appealed to Moni Pulo to consider training the host communities on skills that are relevant in the industry to Integrate and make them major players in their petroleum sector.

One of the beneficiaries who spoke with our correspondent, Mr. Jeremiah Effiong expressed appreciation to the oil company, saying that he would make good use of the empowerment.

Another beneficiary, Boniface Etim said that the empowerment package will help him to generate daily income to enable him to take care of himself and his family.
