A/Ibom: Police nab absconded man who murdered wife with acid bath

The Akwa Ibom state police command said it has arrested one Udoh Okon, who fled after bathing his wife to death with acid.

Blueprint recalls that Okon, a resident of Mbiakpan Ikot Edim village in Ibiono Ibom local government area of the state on Friday last week, reportedly poured acid on his wife while sleeping in the night over minor disagreement, and absconded to an unknown destination.

It was gathered that his wife was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Uyo, the state capital by good Samaritans where she died the following day (Saturday) from  severe acid burns.

A source told our correspondent in Uyo, the state capital that the man has been arrested and handed over to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, who confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday said the man was arrested by the police with the assistance of the youths of the area and would soon be prosecuted

“The Akwa Ibom state police command, through its operatives at ‘D’ Division, Itam, in conjunction with the youths of Mbiakpan Ikot 

have arrested one Okon-Abasi Etim Okon ‘m’ of Mbiakpan Ikot Edim, Ibono Ibom LGA.

“Investigation revealed that the suspect poured raw acid on his wife, one Margaret Okon-Abasi Etim ‘f’, aged 40 years, on 9/10/2020 while she was sleeping which led to her death.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and will be charged to court immediately after investigation,” Macdon said.
