A/Ibomites laud Buhari on 22km feeder road construction

Communities in Ibiono local government area of Akwa Ibom state during the weekend praised President Muhammadu Buhari on the ongoing construction of 22km feeder roads in the state.

The project was part of President Buhari’s plans to reactivate the economy for the purpose of food sufficiency in the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang stated this while inspecting the project in Ibiono local government area of the state.

Enang explained that the project which begins from Calabar Itu highway, cuts across Ikot Ekpud, Ikot Antia, Ikot Akpan Obong, Ikot Odiong, Ikot Idang, Mkpabang, Mbiabang, Akpatok Itam, Uyo Itam, Mbiatok Itam, ends at Mbiaya Uruan.

He said the choice of the area became necessary given the agricultural activities as well as other allied agribusinesses the area was known for.

He said that the intervention was one of the ecological projects of the Federal Government with the total sum of 6.1 billion naira.

Enang said that 9.12km has been completed alongside four bridges and some culverts , assuring that the remaining 12.88km would be completed before  May ending of next year.

He said that though there were some levels of misunderstanding with the communities involved, diplomacy was employed and compensation would be duly paid to persons whose properties were on the right of way.

“This is an ecological project; it is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s strategies of reactivating the economy for food sufficiency.

“My office is working across the Niger Delta to achieve the same goal and also revitalize other abandoned projects”, he said.

The Village Head of Ikot Antia, Obong Edem Asuquo commended the President for opening up the area for more agricultural activities.

He appealed to federal government to compensate the villagers whose properties were marked and would be demolished.

The community leader of Ikot Antia, Mr Usen Iba, who expressed satisfaction with the project, assured the federal government of the community’s cooperation in the execution of the project.
