Aba Marathon LOC arrives Okpekpe

As a prelude to the unveiling of the programme for the successful hosting of the 2nd Aba Township Half Marathon, a team from the Local Organising Committee of the Aba Marathon, has arrived Okpekpe, Edo state to witness the road race.
The Okpekpe Road race is a 10-kilometre course, while the Aba event is run on a 21.1kilometre course. Both races are overseen by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

Led by Mr. Seye Adebayo, the Aba Marathon organisers will lend support to the Okpekpe race and hold meetings on the sidelines of the event with Officials of AFN, representatives of the IAAF, National Sports Commission (NSC) as well as sponsors, vendors and service providers.
It would be recalled that both races debuted in 2013, aiming to fill the vacuum created by lack of credible road races that can grow to meet international standards. Of the two, the Aba Township Marathon surpassed expectations by attracting up to 5, 000 runners from across the country.

This success prompted the AFN to draft the marathon into its Athletics calendar. This year’s race will hold on December 21 and incidentally will be the last major sporting event of the year in the federation calendar. Already, inquiries are streaming from East, Central and West Africa about the Aba race.
