The Ona of Abaji and chairman of the council of traditional rulers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, yesterday in his palace, suspended the Madakin Ganagana, Adamu Aliyu, in the area.
Yunusa said the palace decided to suspend the Madakin for conferring traditional titles on some Ganagana indigenes in the area without the knowledge of the council.
He said there was no reason why he should go ahead to confer titles on people when traditional council of the palace had unanimously resolved to temporary suspend any kind of traditional title to people.
According to him, there was a circular issued by the FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, that traditional titles or appointments of any village chief should be suspended.
“Therefore, this palace has decided to suspend the Madakin Ganagana of Abaji, Aliyu Adamu forthwith, for contravening the order and going ahead to turban some people despite the directive,” he said.
Reacting, the Madakin Ganagana of Abaji, Adamu Aliyu said he was aware of his suspension when the Ona of Abaji, summoned him for a meeting at his palace on Wednesday.
“It was at the meeting that the Ona of Abaji announced my suspended. However, I have nothing to say for now, I will consult with those I conferred titles on for further necessary action,” he said.
The Madakin Ganagana had on Tuesday, in an elaborate occasion, conferred various traditional titles on 22 prominent Ganagana indigenes of the area, including the executive chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya.
