Moved by the pathetic situation of residents of a border village between Nigeria and Cameroon in his senatorial district and, in line with his campaign promises, the senator representing Adamawa North, Senator Elisha Ishiaku Abbo has awarded a road contract in Mukta village of Mubi south local government.
The road is expected to link the village up with the rest of the world.
This followed the senator’s unscheduled visit to the community which is in his senatorial district after travelling for a long distance inside the bush, the senator was shocked to realise that, there is no access road to the village which forced him and his entourage to trek a very long distance before getting hired machines which took them to the village.
Addressing the people of the community of Higgi ethnic group, Senator Abbo expressed concerned over the neglect of the community by government over the years and their pathetic situation. He promised to do everything within his power to change their story.
He further expressed shock that at this modern age, the people of the village are still using donkeys as a means of transportation with no single social amenity to the extent that they were prepared to do business with Cameroon than Nigeria due to lack of access road.
“I have already hired bulldozers and workers to open up access road for this wonderful resilient Nigerians that will make the area accessible and link them up with the rest of the world. I hope this little gesture will rekindle their hopes in their country, Nigeria, ” the senator said.
Meanwhile, the senator also granted scholarship to a child of a disabled single mother, Hajiya Hauwa Gulak and he purchased a propelling tricycle for her with some financial assistance to ease her movement and ameliorate her sufferings .
Abbo was also on a condolence visit to the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isa Ahmadu over the demise of Mubi district head when he spotted the woman among the mammoth crowd that barricaded vehicles waiting for him to come out of the palace.
The senator tasked the citizens to hold leaders accountable at all times adding that, the country is blessed with abundant human and material resources yet refused to prioritise development.
