Abdulsalami laid foundation for private varsities- Igbinedion

The Chancellor of Igbinedion University (IUO) Okada , Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, has showered praises on ex-military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar for approving the establishment of the first private University in the country.

Igbinedion said the school’s license in 1999 was a turning point in the nation’s education sector and a foundation for the establishment of 79 private universities to date.

The Chancellor stated this during the 20th anniversary of IUO held in Okada, Edo state.

 He said “the remarkable initiative and uncommon bravery and disposition towards granting licence to IUO as  the first private University in the country is today been celebrated’.

‘Today, we are the most sought after in the milieu of 70 private universities in Nigeria.

‘We doff our hat to a great man of courage and faith in a better Nigeria, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, GCFR.

“The University is my brainchild and vision. But His Excellency, General Abdulsalami Abubakar who is our chairman today, gave us our trail-blazing position”,  Igbinedion said.

Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Prof Lawrence Ezemonye said the school represents and exemplary in Nigeria higher education.
