Abia NSCDC arrests 4 over petroleum products deals

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia state command, Umuahia, has arrested and paraded four suspects involved in illegal dealing in petroleum products by the eagle eyed anti-vandalism team in Aba.

Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, the state commandant, Barrister Nwannukwu Nnamdi Cyprian, said at about 01:30 hours on August 29,2019, that a combined team of the anti-vandalism squad of NSCDC, Abia state command arrested the four suspects at Imo Gate in Ukwa West LGA, Abia state, for illegal dealing on petroleum products suspected to be AGO.

Abia NSCDC commandant said the observation/findings from the preliminary investigations so far, it had been observed that the products were concealed in nylon bags loaded in the vehicles and that the products have no purchase receipt/way bill or metre ticket.

Cyprian also said the said vehicles had no haulage permit that “allows them to be used to convey such product.”

He further said the suspects “now convey petroleum products through passenger vehicles as against the conventional tanker trucks just to beat security.”

“You can see that these criminals have devised other wicked tactics towards perpetuating their illegal acts and we are equally proactive in discovering them through sustained surveillance, intelligence and Professionalism of our Anti-vandalism Squad,” he said.

On his part, the command’s public relations officer, DSC Ndukwe Agu Egwu, advised the public, warning that the petroleum product “is highly inflammable and as such can cause fire disaster which can in turn affect lives and property.”
