Abia NSCDC reads riot act to petroleum products’ thieves, vandals

Commandant of the Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia state command, Barr Nwannukwu Nnamdi Cyprian, has vowed to  rid the state of    petroleum products’ thieves and vandals  operating within Aba axis of Abia state.

The NSCDC state commandant gave the warning against the backdrop of the cases of thieves and vandals dealing on illegal petroleum products and vandals on broken down trucks on the highway within Aba areas of the state.

Speaking to journalists in Umuahia,  while parading six  suspects, three dealing on illegal petroleum products while the other three caught for malicious/ collateral damage of a broken down truck conveying petroleum products and conversion of same by the hoodlums in Aba.
He added that the three suspects arrested claimed to be staff of Ministry of Environment, Abia state.

He pointed out that the three suspects; Ikechukwu Achinihu, 45, Uchenna Iheonunekwu, 38, and Ugochukwu Amarachi, 32, were picked up at Alaoji axis in Ugwunagbo LGA of Abia state from their various business places at the aforesaid location at about 004hrs for alleged malicious/collateral damage on a broken down truck conveying petroleum products and conversion of the said products.

It disclosed that the impersonators, with fake ID cards and emblems falsely claimed to be acting on the directives of the authorities of the ministry and subsequently towed the broken down truck loaded with items suspected to be petroleum products to an unknown location, carted away the products, disassembled the said truck and sold them in parts.

The NSCDC commandant also said the suspects were also being investigated for receiving stolen property at the scene of the crime at Imo gate on Port Harcourt – Enugu expressway in a truck, pieced and sold in parts to scraps’ buyers.

“We are still after the fake ministry of environment worker and his cohorts who are still at large,” he said.

He added that the command has spread their tentacles to make sure that they are apprehended soon, noting that they were profiling the three suspects to establish the extent of their involvement after which they will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
