ABU: Alumni constructs N80 million overhead bridge, seeks Blueprint support

The Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU Zaria) Alumni Association on Tuesday disclosed that the old students of the university has constructed an overhead bridge worth N80 million to the school community and pedestrians-alike.

In the same vein, the alumni association has equally hinted on its plan to present a comprehensive compendium of the old student ‘who is who’ which is slated for public presentation sometimes next month in Abuja.

The Alumni President, Professor Ahmed Tijani Mora, made this disclosure on Tuesday when the association paid a courtesy call on the management of Blueprint newspapers at its Maitama corporate headquarters.

According to Mora, the donation of the pedestrian bridge and other projects like Intra-city bus shuttle, donation of housing units accommodation to the school, building of lecturers’ capacity and the ongoing lap top distribution to students on installment payment was borne out of the alumni’s cardinal objectives.

He said, “We just finished the construction of an overhead bridge within the school vicinity to enable staffs and students cross over the highway without hitches. Apart from that, we have also been carrying out other numerous projects as a way of giving back to our alma matta.”

On the plans to present a compendium, Mora added that the moves became necessary because of the need to profile and present to the public its ex- students who have excel and have also contributed their quota as governors, ministers, corporate players and other individuals doing well in their private and official capacities.

While soliciting Blueprint’s media partnership ahead of its programme and its quest to reach out to its alumni across the country and beyond, Mora reiterated the association’s resolve to partner the medium in its quest to re-activate and re-invigorate its branches.

Also speaking, the secretary of the association Kande Daniel thanked the management for the reception accorded his team, saying the much needed media back-up by the medium would go a long way in boosting their confidence.

Responding, the Managing Editor of the medium, Mr Clement Oluwole eulogized the visitors for carrying on with the vision of the great Sir Ahmadu Bello, saying that the new parley would be the beginning of a long-lasting relationship between the alumni and his medium.

“ I am happy to tell you that by this development, we have strike a bond that will last long. Let me also assure you that this medium will do everything humanly possible to give the much-awaited compendium presentation the needed coverage,” Oluwole said.
