ABU FM radio GM laments grants suspension

A former general manger of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria Radio Station, ABU FM, Malam Nasir Abdul, has decried the suspension of quarterly grant of the station by the management of the university.

He stated this while responding to testimonies at a reception organised in his honour by staff of the station over his new appointment with Federal University, Dutsima, Katsina as assistant registrar.

Abdul said the suspension of the grant had negatively affected the station in terms of running some programmes.

“No radio station can work effectively without grants; I want to request the university management led our dynamic vice-chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba, though he has been assisting us one way or the other to have a re-think in the area of this quarterly grant,” he said.

Also speaking, the director, Directorate of Public Affairs of the University, Dr Isma’ila Shehu, said the exit of the celebrant was a great loss not only to the station, but to the entire system.

“Malam Nasir Abdul and I are friend for quite long time; in fact, I benefited from him. He campaigned vigorously for my election as chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna state, without me knowing while he was more qualified and competent than me for the post, but he insisted that I must be,” he said.
