Against the back drop of insinuation that Jigawa state government under governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has neglected sports, the governor has proved his book makers wrong, as he commissioned modern Dutse Township stadium
The stadium was constructed at the cost of N.1bn to justify his administration’s intent to boost sports in the state.
Speaking while commissioning the edifice, the governor disclosed that his predecessor Alhaji Sule Lamido has awarded the contract for the building of the Stadium on 25th day of June , 2012 at the initial cost of N351.883milion and the work has reached about 60 percent ,when he took over the mantle of leadership of the state ,the contract was reviewed up ward due to additional projects to the tune of N.1bn which according to him was completed.
He said the stadium consists, of basketball, volley ball, handball
Badminton, Lawn tennis and table tennis courts , foot ball pitch adding that it has 25,000 capacity.
The governor who was represented by the secretary to the state government Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir Fanini expressed optimism that the stadium will serve as the vehicle for job creation and improving health status of its users as well as boosting the economy of the state.
Earlier in his speech, the state commissioner for Information ,Youth, Sports and Culture Alhaji Bala Ibrahim Mamser stated that the present government has completed the VIP, popular stands, erected doors, plants and nursed the pitch grass, as well as supplied giant stand by generator
The Commissioner explained further that the state government will expand the stadium to the international standard, that will reach 50,000 capacity where by even international foot ballmatches can be played in the it.
Mamser pointed out that the state government has recruited a new technical adviser and new players for the Jigawa Golden Stars Fc in order for the team to gain promotion to the elite league.
