Abuja business moguls, others move to decongest sea ports

The Abuja chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with Kaduna Inland Dry Port, Nigeria Competitiveness Project (NICOP) and German Development Agency (GIZ) Are to decongest the Nigerian sea ports through supporting Inland Dry ports.

The Director, Policy Advocacy Centre of the chamber, Mr Olawale Rasheed has said at a one-day workshop on validation of report of assessment of Kaduna Inland Dry Port held at Bafra Hotel in Kaduna.

He said that the workshop which had all the stakeholders in attendance was a pivotal to see to the revival of medium and long term economy amidst the recession occasioned by global pandemic and oil market crush, building internal economic infrastructure was a precondition for post-Covid 19 recovery.

The Director represented by front line member of the chamber, Alhaji Hassan Ibrahim said “when the wider context of African continental free trade regime is taking into account, we realize the urgent need for Nigeria to expand and strengthen her trade and commerce infrastructure, this is especially so in the area of transportation and logistics.

Mr Rasheed pointed out that with critical challenges at Lagos and Eastern Ports the strategic option was to develop chain of Inland dry ports to ease congestion, fast track hither land trading and reduce cost of running businesses that was why the workshop was organized.

In his contribution the Managing Director Kaduna Inland Dry port, Mr Rotimi Raheem said that the Dry was the First in North.
