Abuja is dirty, Karu, Jikwoyi residents tell Bello, Candido

Residents of Karu, Jikwoyi, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have condemned what they described as the “total failure of current administrations of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammadu Musa Bello, and Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Candido, for “neglecting one of their primary responsibilities by allowing heaps of refuse to grow and ultimately defacing the roads from Nyanya, Karu and Jikwoyi, and as far as Karshi.

” A resident, Musa Abdullahi, said in Karu: “It’s an eye saw, people talk talking it everywhere you go in the city. “For about two months now, the contractors handling refuse sites have not come to the site to evacuate refuse; the situation is worsening in Karu as it has completely occupied the road, causing traffi c jam every day between Karu and Nyanya.” Another, John Nwachukwu, told our correspondent that: “I really don’t know when Nyanya will be clean; it’s like the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has gone to sleep. Th ey are only interested in chasing around and harassing petty traders whose husbands are either jobless or incapacitated one way or the other. It’s a pity, my brother.” Th e residents, therefore, appealed to concern authorities to come to their aid, saying that the situation had caused environmental challenges in the aff ected communities.
