Abuja-Keffi logjam: FCT Ministerial team adopts new measures

The FCT Ministerial traffic team has adopted new measures to sustain its fight against the gridlock on the ever-busy Nyanya-Mararaba road, along Abuja-Keffi axis.

Chairman of the traffic team, Ikharo Attah, Tuesday, at Nyanya, gave matching order to all tricycle operators that have turned the inter-change to mechanic shop to vacate the area within seven days.

He said, “We have given the tricycles, fondly called KEKE NAPEP one week to leave the area, if they fail to do so after one week, we will come with truck and pack them”.

Attah regretted that turning the inte-rchange which is an entering point into the nation’s capital was causing logjam that thwarts the combined efforts of police personnel, VIO, FRSC and Abuja Environmental and Protection Board, AEPB, officials to tackle the gridlock.

He said roadside trading and other unconventional activities being carried out by the people will not be tolerated.

“The persons we cleared before have return, and are fully prepare to be in their business. We are keen to grow commerce in FCT but not the commerce that will be on the road shoulders.
“This will help all those that ply the route not to spend hours on the road”.

He said Nyanya is the gate way into the federal capital city from the North East, adding, “looking at how busy the road is, we want to ensure that there is sanity.”

Attah advised those involved to move to Kugbo mechanic site, which is located for such activity.

According to him, the special ministerial team had embarked on the de-congestion of the traffic jam weeks ago but after reappraising the situation it has taken new steps to end the menace.

He called on all stakeholders in FCT to support the ministerial special task team to succeed, adding one of the causes of gridlock on the road was not only vehicular moment but human activities that are not in line with the laid down rules.

On his part, the head of operations Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) enforcement department, Kaka Bello, said some of the officials have been stationed in the area to always ensure compliance by all those that ply the road.
