Abuja Master Plan: Kuje to be restructured – Chairman

Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Ishaku Shadan Tete, has said that the Kuje main market, which is in the centre of the town, would be restructured in line with Abuja’s Master Plan.

Tete, who spoke through the Council’s Chief Market Manager, Mr. Baba Aduga Mukailu, stressed that series of meetings between the traders and the Council officials had been held to discuss the possibilities of restructuring the market due to its congestion and the obstruction caused by traders who attached shanties on the road.
He added that the fire that gutted the market twice last year was perhaps caused by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and that property worth millions of naira were destroyed in the fire.

Tete said the restructuring would help the Council to properly check and balance revenue generation, but appealed to the Council officials to always listen to the traders.
He also called on the traders not to entertain any fear about the move by the Council, but to be patient and wait for the next line of action by the appropriate authorities.
