Abuja rain kills many in Karshi

Many people have been reported killed and several others missing following a heavy down pour late on Saturday in Karshi area of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

According to eye witnesses report the rain which fell in major parts of Abuja gave a devastating blow on the residents of Karshi who were returning to and from the axis during the heavy rain.
At least three bodies have been recovered from the canal by the Karshi bypass early on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Blueprint one of the residents, Mr. Ben Nnamadi said, “there was flood and rain washed away cars including a Sienna with it’s occupants.
“Three bodies- two females adults and one male have been recovered and many yet unaccounted for.
“ It was a heavy rain yesterday at Karshi by pass after Living Faith Church,” he said.

Another resident, Mr. Emmanuel Ejike said “about three motors were involved.

He explained that “there is a canal along the Karshi bypass which is an Express way. Rain was falling and the people entered the canal.

Ejike however blamed the incident on the absence of barricade around the canal to prevent such accidents.

“The people entered the canal because there is no barricade. The flood covered the highway and many people ran inside (the canal),” he said.

The residents are hoping that the Abuja Municipal Area Council will do the needful to forestall future occurrence.
