Academic activities begin as UniAbuja re-opens

Normal academic activities have been restored as the senate of the University of Abuja has announced its resumption for the 2012/2013 academic session, effective July 20, 2014.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Michael Umale Adikwu, disclosed the news about the resumption to newsmen in Abuja at the weekend during an interactive chat.

Details of the academic calendar which were issued by the acting Registrar, Mrs Rifkatu Swanta, showed that the students were expected to start arriving in the campus from July 20, while normal lectures were expected to bring the second semester to an end would commence on Monday July 21 (today).
Second semester examinations were expected to kick start on August 4, and conclude on September 9.
The vice-chancellor, who used the occasion of the interactive media chat to also unveil a 37-point transformation agenda for the university, assured the students and the academic community of a hitch-free session.

He promised to urgently address the myriads of challenges confronting the university, including accreditation of outstanding courses offered by the university, completion of on-going infrastructure, addressing the examination racketeering monster by reviving the functions of ethics committee
Adikwu further promised to run an open administration with all interest groups on campus, ensure transparency, prompt release of examination results and certificates and the expansion of facilities on campus.
The vice-chancellor further announced plan by his management to hold university convocation ceremony February, early next year.
