Accident: 2 Nurses die, 10 others Injure at Lagos-Abeokuta expressway


Two nurses were reportedly dead while 10 other passengers sustained different degrees of injuries when a Toyota Hiace bus was involved in a loan accident along Akinale village on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.


The spokesperson to the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the accident to Blueprintin Abeokuta 
According to Akinbiyi, the accident which occurred at about 9:20am Sunday, was caused by excessive speed, use of handset on the wheel which resulted into loss of control. 


He noted that 18 people were involved in the accident which comprised of one male and 17 female nurses, adding that two nurses died while 10 others sustained injuries. 


“According to one of the survival,  the driver of the Toyota Hiace white colour bus marked OG 49A 07,  was over speeding and as well using his cellphone while driving at a bend, lost control and summersaulted several time.


“The occupants in the bus were nurses who were all heading to a party to honour the matron in one of the  hospitals in Abeokuta,” Akinbiyi added.


He further noted that the injured were rescued to Hope hospital, Adigbe, Abeokuta while the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of General hospital, Ijaye in Abeokuta. 


The TRACE spokesman while consoling the family of the deceased, enjoined motorists to avoid excessive speeding, especially during the rain, as well as the use of mobile phone, saying most accidents were avoidable if rules and regulations were followed.
