Accident: Dead bodies not yet evacuated from Imo River

Twenty-four hours after a ghastly motor accident involving a refuse disposal van, a mini commercial bus and a private vehicle occurred along Akachi Road in Owerri, the relevant government agencies saddled with the responsibility of evacuating dead bodies are yet to do so.

The accident which occurred Tuesday afternoon was caused by bad spots on one lane of the dual carriage in the Akachi road which forced  all vehicles coming and going into the hilly road to make use of the other lane, thus slowing the movement of the vehicles.

While the refuse van driver could not control his vehicle as a result of faulty break, he hit the bus which in turn hit the other vehicle and they all ended in the river.

Our correspondent gathered that the operator of the government owned crane has not been found.

This was exactly what happened early March this year when occupants in a collapsed building could not be rescued several hours after the building collapsed because the relevant agency did not show up at the scene.
