ACF condemns Konduga bomb blasts, urges surveillance, intelligence, vigilance

Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has condemned the triple bomb blasts in Konduga, Borno state, while calling for improved intelligence gathering, increased security surveillance and vigilance by the community.
ACF National Publicity Secretary, Malam Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, in a statement on Tuesday expressed sadness and shock on the bomb explosions and insurgents attack on a military base at Gajiganaram at the outskirts of Maiduguri metropolis.

“Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) is saddened and shocked with the sad news of a triple bomb blast by three suicide bombers at a Viewing Centre in Konduga village, Borno State, on Sunday 16th June 2019 where about 30 people were reportedly killed and many injured. There are also reports yesterday of insurgents attack on a military base at Gajiganaram at the outskirts of Maiduguri metropolis.
“The resurgence of the Boko Haram terrorists who have continued to perpetrate these barbaric, wicked and inhuman acts at the fringes of Borno state are disturbing and condemnable.
The bomb attacks in Borno state and banditry in other parts of the North, especially the North West zone, which caused the death of many innocent people and property destroyed are security threats to peaceful coexistence and economic activities.
“Hence the need for consciously directed efforts by government at all levels, security agencies, as well as religious and traditional rulers to come together and unleash their synergistic potential in order to put an end to this menace permanently.

“ACF therefore urges the various communities, to be more vigilant, security conscious and also heed to the intelligence community’s advice by reporting suspicious persons, movements and objects in their midst to the security agencies in order to avert such cases of attacks on military bases, suicide bomb blasts and bandits attacks with their attendant dire consequences.

“ACF, while commending the efforts of the military, other security agencies and the civilian JTF in their campaigns against the Boko Haram terrorists and other criminals, encourages them not to relent but to sustain the onslaught and constant surveillance in the affected states until security to lives and property is properly restored.
“Furthermore, perpetrators of these crimes should be traced, arrested and brought to book no matter their status to serve as deterrent to others. The slow process of prosecuting those alleged to have committed such crimes have not been helpful.

“ACF extends its condolences to the families of those affected, the government and people of Borno state over this unfortunate incidence. It equally commends the efforts of Borno State Government and other public spirited persons and humanitarian organizations for their prompt responses in providing free medical treatment to the injured persons.”
