ACF condemns southern Kaduna killings

Following the killings of over 100 people and destruction of property worth millions of naira in Kaura local government of Kaduna state, at the weekend, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) yesterday condemned the act and called for proactive measures to forestall recurrence of such killings.

The Forum described the increasing attacks on innocent citizens by unknown gunmen in the northern region as “heinous, barbaric and unacceptable.”
The statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim, added that the situation was assuming a dangerous trend, thereby instilling fear and uncertainty in the minds of the people, urging people not to attach religion sentiments.

The statement said: “ACF is beginning to doubt the wisdom of associating attacks with religion or ethnicity as the communities where these killings take place have lived together peaceably over the years. This is indeed very sad and worrisome.
“The federal government should, therefore, investigate the possibility of external influence considering the sophistication of arms being used by the gunmen and insurgents. Northern states should put their resources together and fun the security apparatus in their state for effect, similar to task force operating in Lagos and Kano states.

“ACF urges the Kaduna state government and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately provide relief materials to alleviate the sufferings of the affected people of Kaura local government, while security agencies should provide adequate security, especially in the most vulnerable areas.”
