The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed deep concern over the present fuel scarcity being experienced nationwide, resulting in long queues in petrol stations and causing untold hardship to commuters and motorists especially during yuletide.
A communiqué issued and signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim Biu in Kaduna, after a meeting of the working committee of the forum, said the ACF noted that since the increase in pump price of fuel in the last two years, there has been steady supply of petrol in filling stations and wondered what led to the present scarcity across the country.
The communiqué called on the management of the NNPC to thoroughly investigate the remote and immediate causes of the fuel scarcity and take concrete measures to restore normalcy.
The communiqué further noted with great concern the lackadaisical attitude of some state governments towards accessing the universal basic education funds as provided by UBEC, particularly in the North, and called on northern states that were yet to access the funds to do so while those that have accessed it to judiciously utilise the fund.
On drug addiction among youths in the North, the communiqué noted with grave concern the alarming rate of illegal drugs consumption and addiction among youths and women in the country and its therefore appreciated the recent call by the northern traditional rulers on governments at all levels and relevant agencies to take necessary steps to stem the menace.
