The Chief Judge of Kogi state, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, has charged legal officers in the state to acquaint themselves with the current  technology development to enable them discharge their duties creditable.
Ajanah, who gave the charge  in Lokoja yesterday during a one-day workshop with the theme: “Admissibility of electronic evidences: Matters arising”, organised for legal officers by Kogi state High Court, said “those saddled with the responsibilities of discharging justice have to be aware of certain things that are happening nowadays, saying it is very important to organised the workshop to acquaint the legal officers what they needed to know”.
According to him “the days whether it is civil litigations or criminal cases, people are becoming more sophisticated. Criminals are becoming more astute and they know how to go about everything they need to do and get their ways out of court.

“This is because we are in a digital age and this digital age requires the legal officers to be up to date. We will do society no good if someone that seemingly had committed an offence and later set free , nobody will say that the trial was properly done before the criminal was set free, but what people will say is that a thief or an armed robber was taken to court and was set free”
He, however, noted that though the laws  did not properly cover everything pertaining to electronic evidences, stressed that it is imperative for legal officers to be up to date with what is happening in the society.
The Chief Judge also added that if electronic evidences such as e-mail, handset , camera and computer are not properly tendered before court , “there is nothing a Judge can do”
In his remark, the resource person, Hon. Justice Alaba  Omolaiye-Ajileye , said the workshop was organised to share ideas on how best evidences can be tendered to assist Judges in performing their responsibilities.
