The in-country consultant for Youth Digital Engagement (YDE) project, ActionAid Nigeria, Dr Terfa Abraham, has called for digital literacy among youths to expand their access to job opportunities across the country.
Abraham who stated this on Wednesday in Abuja at ActionAid Nigeria’s Youth Digital Engagement (YDE) report validation, noted that the priority area for the YDE project as determined from the data collected identifies employment as the major area requiring intervention and engagement.
He said government’s effort to enhance access to economic opportunities is constantly limited as it does not fully address gender needs or the needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The report validation presented by Terfa, shows that young persons (35 years and less) account for 81.45% of the respondents, while elderly persons account 18.55%.
Also in the report, females accounted for 51% of the respondent while the proportion of Male is 49% adding that PWDs account for 18% of respondents (1,104 out of 6,201).
Also, the Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria (AAN), Ene Obi who was represented by the Head of Programme, ActionAid Nigeria, Suwaiba Yakubu said the project is very key to ActionAid Nigeria and for education to grow and develop, youth must be taken into consideration.
Also, the Manager, Social Mobilization, ActionAid Nigeria,Adewale Adeduntan explained that the Youth Digital Engagement (YDE) project is a DANIDA funded project implemented by ActionAid Nigeria in collaboration with partners and sub national level.
According to him, the project seeks to leverage on the use of digital tool to enable young people take charge in leading their communities.
He further said the data was collected by Community Champions and ActionAid Activistas in collaboration with other partners in Abuja, Akwa Ibom and Gombe states.
