Actionaid canvasses inclusion of rural women in govt programmes

Actionaid, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has called for the inclusion of rural women in government programmes to ensure economic development.
Women’s Right Manager, Actionaid, Mrs Nkechi Ilohi-Omekedo, said the organisation had facilitated a lot of processes which are in form of pilot project to showcase specific services.
She said that the debate around restructuring of Nigeria had been going on and the voices of women had not been heard in this light.
Nkechi said there was the need to look at the plight of women from the grassroots to pick up their voices in this regards.
She said that the organisation had worked with several women to ensure the provision of health center facilities, water, schools, income generating machine.
According to her, a lot of civil society organisations for many years had been canvassing for women inclusion in policy making of the country as this would greatly yield significant gains for the country.
She therefore called on the Federal Government to look into the plight of women especially those in the rural communities thereby attending to many of their needs and demands.
Also, Policy, Advocacy and Campaign Manager of Actionaid, Mr Tunde Aremu said the organisation had engaged with the MDAs on issues that affects women directly.
Aremu noted that the place of women cannot be replaced in articulating their demands.
He said that women should be empowered while building their capacities to be able to do the advocacy of their issues.
