The Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Ene Obi, has said in preparation for the 2027 general elections start now for women to vote and be voted for , so that they can break barriers for the country politics that excludes women.

The Country Director said this in Abuja at the Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria (WVL-N) Project and SLOC-VAWG themed: “2023 and Nigerian women in Governance: Sustaining for Active Participation”.

She charged women to educate themselves on the particular parties they are on so that women in communities can pick the right logo.

She said, “Generally, as a Nigerian woman among women, we find ourselves regularly struggling with different forms of gender biases including gender discrimination, low participation of women in politics, gender -based violence among others.

“These have led to a huge/ wide existing wide margin in women’s right advancement and have continued to foster women exclusion in leadership and decision -making processes especially decisions that affects us directly.

“We will not be silent , not be backed up in a corner, we will continue to form a formidable movement of brave women who will rise to the occasion and challenge social norms that limits the right of women and enhance equal rights and opportunity for Nigerian Women and Girls.”
