Activist tasks Kogi govt on Hassan Katsina road rehabilitation

Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) based in Kogi, Comrade Idris Miliki has appealed to Kogi state government and other stakeholders to rehabilitate the dilapidated road leading to the state legislature, judiciary and federal establishments in the state.
Miliki, a human rights activist, made the call in a statement titled “Urgent need for intervention on Hassan Katsina Road,” which was made available to newsmen  Tuesday.

He said it was worrisome for the all-important “Hassan Katsina Road,” hosting most of the vital organs of government such as the judiciary,  legislative arms of government, and federal agencies to be left in such sorry state of dilapidation.

He said: “This is an all important road that hosts the Zone 8 Police Command headquarters, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), headquarters of the State Security Services (SSS), House of Assembly and High Court Complex, headquarters of the state judiciary.
“Others are the state offices of Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), National Orientation Agency (NOA), WAEC  and other federal government departments, parastatals and the 25,000-seat capacity Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.

“We call on the CBN, through its Corporate Social Responsibility, to intervene in this embarrassing situation, the road is causing the institutions particularly those owned by the federal government,” he said.

The activist noted that with the commencement of the rainy season, the usual flooding had started subjecting school pupils and students of the Federal Staff School, workers, residents and tax payers in the state to untold hardship in plying the road.
The activist however stated that if nothing meaningful was done by the state government and relevant institutions, people should contribute money to patch the worst portions to make it motorable, adding that this year’s rain may worsen the situation.

“We call on the people to raise money through contribution to repair some of the worst portions on the road, especially, front of the stadium and the stretch between NAN and CBN down to FERMA new office,” he said.
