Adamawa monarch bans ogogoro, Indian hemp

Paramount ruler of Bachama Kingdom in Adamawa state, Hama Bachama Humon Honest I Stephen, has announced the ban of hawking and consumption of ogogoro and Indian hem in the entire kingdom with a threat to punish offenders.

The monarch, who made this known while addressing his subjects at the just concluded 2nd Kwete Cultural Festival 2014 in Lamurde local government area, warned that the Bachama traditional council would not take it lightly with anybody apprehended hawking the substances.
He said the measure was aimed at promoting social values and a clean environment.

He said: “Hawking in whatever disguise is banned and anyone found hawking ogogoro and Indian hemp would be arrested and handed over to concern authority for prosecution.”

According to him, the council has already notified all traditional rulers under the Kingdom and security agencies for effective monitoring and enforcement of the ban.

He urged stakeholders to support the traditional council in its efforts to rid the society off such substances, and charged youths to desist from engaging in drug trafficking.

The monarch, therefore, called on government at all levels to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youths roaming the streets.
