Adamawa politics: A dicey 2019 for Gov Bindow

The political permutations as at now, in Adamawa state, is so dicey for the incumbent Governor, Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, and this from all indication would be the situation in 2019.
Happenings on ground in the state are so dicey for the incumbent governor. The loyalists of former Governor Murtala Nyako are poised to be the stumbling block for his quest for a second tenure. Recent events in the state House of Assembly where principal offi cers, except the Speaker, were impeached is a pointer to the dicey situation for the governor as those who replaced the principal offi cers are from the camp of Nyako.
They are not leaving any stone unturned in their eff ort towards thwarting the second term aspiration of the incumbent. Initially, Bindow belonged to the same camp that stood solidly behind his aspiration as a senator and later Governor. However, Bindow switched allegiance to the camp of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. The Nyako camp are not leaving things to chance in trying to pay Bindow in his own coin for being ungrateful to Nyako, who stood by him from his aspiration of a senator to his current status as a governor.
Another issue that may take centre stage is the non-payment of salaries of local government workers and staff of the Primary Health Care Agency for four months and fi ve months, respectively.
Bindow also has to contend with the party executive in the state, who are aggrieved for not being carried along in the scheme of things. This goes down to even ward executive in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state. Though Bindow scored high marks in the provision of infrastructure like roads, pundits are quick to point out that he failed to prioritise human development by not patronizing the indigenous contractors and completing projects such as the Yola International Hotel that can absorb the teeming unemployed school leavers.
There is apprehension in Bindow’s camp as to what is going to happen in the state APC, especially the Nyako camp that are seriously working against his aspiration in 2019 as they are rooting for the Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu.
Also, senators representing the Adamawa Central and Southern Senatorial zones have pitched their tent with the camp of Nyako. Bindow may not have smooth sail through the murky waters of politics in 2019. It seems there would a crack-down on Bindow’s camp the moment the whistle is blown for real politicking to start in the coming year by the opposing camp and other groups disenchanted with Bindow’s administration and growing concern over security in the state.
All eyes are now beamed on the incumbent to see how he would meander out of the quagmire. The waiting game is almost over and the D-day is fast approaching. Usman Santuraki,
