Adamawa students get Chinese scholarship for underprivileged

The Chinese government has provided N100, 000 scholarship each to 45 underprivileged students selected from Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH) Yola, and Adamawa State University, Mubi in Adamawa state. Speaking at the ceremony held at MAUTECH, Yola, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Zhou Pingjian, said the measure was to mark the 47th year bilateral relationship between China and Nigeria. Pingjian reiterated the commitment of the Chinese government to continue to partner with Nigeria in many fields of endeavour. Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of MAUTECH, Prof Mohammed Kyari, represented by Prof. Abraham Mokolo, lauded China for the gesture which he said would go a long way in assisting the students. Kyari said the university has similar support programme for intelligent underprivileged students and urged for more support for the programme from organizations and philanthropists. The vice chancellor also solicited for China support to the institution particularly in areas of technology. Speaking at the occasion, the state Commissioner of Education, Mr Julius Kadala, lauded the Chinese government for the gesture, adding that Adamawa government was committed to education and had already declared state of emergency on the sector in the state. In his remarks, Convener of the programme who is also the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Nigeria/China Relation, Rep. Yusuf Buba, representing Hong/ Gombi Federal Constituency, urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by being more serious in their studies.
