ADC faults RISEC, IPAC on Rivers LG poll

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rivers state chapter has faulted claim by the River state Electoral Commission (RIESEC) and the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) that the local government elections held in the state was free and fair.

This is even as the party dissociated itself from a press conference by the Rivers state chapter of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) endorsing the credibility of the election, insisting that the election was flawed, “as it was married with gross electoral misconduct and irregularities.”

It described the move by the Rivers state chapter of Inter Party Advisory Council ( IPAC), to give the election credibility through a press conference as malicious and misleading, adding that the party’s candidates in the state were denied participation in an election they prepared and mobilise support for.

In a statement by Amb. Leader Sampson on behalf of ADC candidates, the party called on the state government to address the flaws in the election.

The party futher stated that it will not hesitate to take legal action to seek redress , adding that it was in possession of evidence to prove the irregularities in the election.

The statement reads in parts, “That there were gross electoral misconduct that took place in the local government area election in Rivers state. The African Democratic Congress ADC candidates were not allowed to participate in the election that they prepared and mobilise d for by denying them access to the venue. The election was marred by irregularities, thump printing, vote buying by the ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP).

“We dissociate ourselves from the IPAC press conference declaring the election free and fair. The move was malicious attempt by IPAC to convey credibility to the flawed election . The psition of our party ADC remains that the local government elections should be held in a credible, free and fair manner to established a strong and effective political Leadership and development at the grass root level.”
