How to address housing deficit – Estate agent

A Property Agent, Alhaji Musa Paiko, has called on the federal government to come up with a clear direction on how to address the huge housing deficit in the country.

Nigeria is said to have about 17 million housing deficit.

Paiko, who spoke with our Reporter in Abuja recently said that government should intervene in the process of addressing the deficit by allocating mass housing to the people who can afford to building and not those who will resell houses that will be allocated to them.

He said: “Government should intervene by allocating mass housing to those that can afford to build and not just to allocate to the people that will resell houses that will be allocated to them.

“Through the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, or Federal Housing Authority, government should be involved in mass housing in state and local government levels.

“I have observed that the federal government limits itself to cities. There is no federal housing estate in many Local government areas, especially in Paiko local government, where I hail from.

“Federal government should build mass houses and give it to individuals and companies that can afford them like they are doing here in Abuja with Karshi and Lokogoma housing estates. Something like that will help”
