The Kano state governor, Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said judiciary is confronted with many challenges that need to be addressed, and one of the ways to overcome those challenges is through self assessment and capacity building.
In a press statement in Kano Tuesday, Ganduje made the remark while declaring open the judicial retreat for judges, khadis, magistrates, shari’ah court judges, management and other staff of Kano state judiciary held at Porto Golf Resort, Minjibir local government area.
Represented by his deputy, Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the governor noted that the judiciary as an independent institution saddled with the responsibility of protecting the rights of all citizens and enforcing the applicable law of the country, must provide means of developing a plan of action to engage its judicial officers and court’s staff in training and continuing education with a view to promoting the quality of judicial productivity and strengthening the performance and proficiency of the staff.
He added that by organising the retreat, Kano state judiciary aken a giant leap forward but has shown an exceptional capability to restructure its own internal operations by providing a platform that would create opportunity to brainstorm and exchange views on important issues relating to administration of justice in the state.
“The Kano State Judiciary Funds Management Law 2022 is a very important legislation in the administration of justice as it lays a foundation of achieving the financial autonomy and self accounting of the state judiciary,” Ganduje said.
