Adeyeye condemns Ekiti LG primaries

The Campaign Organisation of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye has condemned the conduct of the Ekiti Council primaries and called on the national leadership of the party to quickly come to the rescue of the party in the state.
Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement, (PAAM), Publicity Secretary, Mr
Niyi Ojo, in a statement described the local government primary which was held in the Government House ground and supervised by Governor Ayo Fayose, as clear breach of the party’s constitution.
“The national leadership of our great party should quickly come to the rescue of the party in Ekiti State before Governor Fayose destroys the party.
“In the first instance, Mr Governor created his own constitution by fixing the maximum age for chairmanship candidate at 50 years while maximum age for councillorship candidate at 30 years against the provisions of Nigerian constitution.
“There is nowhere in the constitution that stipulates maximum age for any elective position. Furthermore, the primaries elections to elect the candidates for councillorship and Chairmanship of various local governments commenced at the Ekiti State Government House instead of the various wards and local governments respectively. The
Governor is the electoral officer for the exercise.
“Thousands of our teeming party people were subjected to untold hardships by sleeping on grasses, inside buses and car and concrete platform. The Governor adopted option A4 method that attracted a lot of people without any arrangement for accommodation of the delegates.
“Surprisingly, this morning, the publicity secretary of the party in Ekiti State issued a statement that the Governor had disqualified all chairmanship’ aspirants from Ado Local government.
“Also, some LG chairmanship aspirants from Ido Osi, Moba and Ikole were included in the illegal disqualification for unruly behaviours, thereby calling for fresh nomination before Friday for other interested aspirants. We believe that only court of law can disqualify candidate for election not by executive fiat by the governor.
“We hereby call on the national leadership of PDP to quickly wade into the situation before it degenerates further into another round of crisis. Governor Fayose is not the owner of PDP but only privileged to be a sitting governor at this time,” he said.
