AEDC begins clean-up of shanty networks

In line with its determination to create accident-free electricity services atmosphere within its franchise areas, comprising the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger states, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Plc would commence a phased clean up of poorly wired communities, beginning with Gishiri village in the FCT.
Th is was contained in a statement issued yesterday by the Head of Public Relations of the company, Ahmed Shekarau.
He revealed that the cleaning exercise will begin in Gishiri and subsequently be extended to Tudun Wada and Dape in Lugbe and Life Camp areas of the Territory, respectively.
Th e company further disclosed that the work in Gishiri would commence with the strategic removal of substandard electrical poles, which would be replaced with standard concrete ones.
He, however, noted that the Gishiri network sanitization would lead to intermittent disruption of power supply, especially in particular parts of the community where the cleanup operation is being carried out at a given period of time.
“Against this backdrop, therefore, we are appealing for the patience and understanding of our aff ected customers, just as we solicit their cooperation with members of the teams appointed to carry out this operation,” he said.
He assured that the electricity network refi nement is intended to ensure safe delivery of power to them while also improving the quality of the supply.
He reiterated the company’s commitment to the prevention of potential hazards associated with electricity distribution in its area of operation, adding it was determined to putting a stop to all incidents that could lead to injuries or death in the area while it strives to improve service delivery to its customers.
