AEDC pledges improved services for Nasarawa residents

Days of epileptic power supply will soon be over for Nasarawa state consumers as the management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has promised to step up power delivery to them.
The firm made the pledge during an interactive session organised by the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee for North Central zone aimed at building collaboration between consumers and the DisCos.
The session, according to the firm, was to explore ways of curbing excessive electricity charges especially as its affects complaint over estimated bills being levied on consumers by the DisCo.
Speaking at the occasion, the Managing Director (AEDC), Engr. Ernest Mupwaya, said because of the huge investment in its network, it can take over 870megawatts, adding about 146, 749 meters had so far been installed and that it has also engaged PWC firm on a contract for more meters.
He also said based on calculation, estimated billing is constant but the formula is not constant, noting the firm was working out modalities to improve on the system.
The Disco’s MD explained that when the volume of power is supplied to a cluster, 20 percent is removed as losses, adding that the numbers of metered customers are also removed and then the remaining 80 percent is shared among the customers.
Mupwaya, who said that the company has reduced its aggregate Technical Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses to 38 percent, noted that the company has injected and still injecting huge amount of money to improving the infrastructure and quality of power supply to the customers.
Meanwhile, the chairman, House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee to curb Excessive Electricity Charges, Hon. Israel Ajibola Famurewa said, the session with electricity consumers in the zone was to get first hand information about the quality of service they are getting from the power company.
