AEPB director reads riot act to contractors

Director Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Hassan Abubakar, has called on contractors responsible for cleaning Abuja to put heads together in order to make the city clean.

The director made this known during his meeting with contractors handling the cleaning of the city in his office Thursday. He said cleaning up the city forms the sole mandate of AEPB.

According to him, the city is dirty, going by the reports he received from various officers who monitored the areas where the contractors evacuate bins, bus stops and others.

Abubakar explained that some of the contractors had abandoned the city for more than two months, saying the attitude could not be condoned, going by the order from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Bello to ensure that Abuja city and the area councils enjoy clean environment.

The AEPB director further said even with the six months non-payment, some contractors were lagging behind as most times intervention team of AEPB had to come to the rescue.

He also raised the issue of non-attendance of some of the contractors to meetings which demonstrated unseriousness, saying the situation must change if they should continue with their contracts.
