AEPB official says FCT resident not compliant with environmental regulations

Mr Titus Nwada, an official of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), says activities of some residents of Abuja city centre are not compliant with environmental regulations.
Nwada told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday that in spite of enlightenment campaigns on how to maintain good environment, some residents had not changed.
He said his duty as a team leader of the Special Environmental Squad of the agency had given him the privilege to observe that hawking was even on the increase in the city.
“We have been encountering challenges of non-compliance times without number; even we were attacked by suspected hoodlums while carrying out our operations recently.
“We have to look for more enforcement from the Divisional Police Officer in Area 1 before we could clear a section of Area 1,’’ he said.
Nwada said the situation would not deter his men from maintaining good environment to ensure the cleanliness of the city centre and other areas of FCT.
He, therefore, urged the residents to cooperate with the task force to keep the city clean as directed by the AEPB.
“We are doing this to ensure that people with questionable character are arrested and, of course, we have been arresting them.
“If we arrest drug peddlers and suspected criminals, we hand them over to the appropriate authorities,’’ he said. (NAN)
