AFCON 2019: Ighalo emerges highest goal scorer, wins golden boot award

Nigeria’s Odion Jude Ighalo has emerged the highest goal scorer at the just concluded 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ighalo becomes the sixth Nigerian after Segun Odegbami, Rasheed Yekini, Julius Aghaowa, Jay-Jay Okocha & Emmanuel Emenike to win Afcon’s top scorer prize.

He was the match winner in the Eagles opening goal against Burundi, before he scored a brace against Cameroon in the final and a goal each in the semifinal against Algeria and the third-place match against Tunisia.

He was also top scorer for the qualifiers with seven goals.

Senegal’s Sadio Mane, Ounas and Riyad Mahrez from Algeria finished on three goals each.

Lively midfielder Ismael Bennacer of champions Algeria was named MVP of the AFCON as well as the Young Player of the competition.
