AFCON qualifier: Shape up or ship out, Are tells Rohr

The Director of Grassroots Development in the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Dr. Ademola Are has lambasted Super Eagles CoachGernot Rohr over his inability to build a formidable national team for the nation despite being in the saddle for the past four years .

Speaking ahead of the AFCON double header qualifier  against Sierra Leone , Dr. Are told Blueprint Sport in Abuja that “Rohr should be up and doing. He should put smiles on faces of Nigerians because we are not really happy about the spate of draws and losses been recorded by the team lately”

“We really want to win and win good . We don’t want situation where we are going to  be struggling before we qualify for Nations Cup, that’s should be in the past not now .It’s really unacceptable , Dr. Are said.

Though the erudite sports administrators admitted that certain factors are generally responsible for the team to stamp its feet on the ground, he pointed out  the inability of the league to start due to Covid-19, the players outside the shores of Nigeria are not together and bringing them to blend and make then cohesive is not easy to achieve on his part .

Rohr should stop the idea of trial and error especially when we are playing qualifying matches. The situation where we are now dropping in Africa and the world in the FIFA ranking is not acceptable at all

“Rohr should be up and doing and look for  hungry players that will give us their best because you have to know that anything Nigeria is playing with any of the African teams they are always coming out in full force. They believe we are the best and they always put in their best against us

However, Dr. Are wish the team and the nation at large good  luck and successful outing in the two legged encounter

The Eagles take on the Leone Stars at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Friday, 13th November before flying to Freetown for the return game on Tuesday, 17th November at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.

Players are expected to report at the Protea Hotel Emotan in Benin City on Monday, 9th November.

Victory in both encounters will all but guarantee Nigeria a slot at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations finals holding in Cameroon.
