AFCON qualifiers: Leone Stars‘ll be hard nut to crack -Moukhtar

Ahead of Sunday’s 2023 AFCON qualifying match between Sierra Leone and Super Eagles, the FCT FA chairman, Adam Mouktar Mohammed has urged the Super Eagles to be red alert and fire on all cylinder if they are desirous of coming out unscathed in the encounter coming at Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex, Paynesville, Monrovia, Liberia.

Mouktar who is seeking re-election for second term (already unopposed) in Bwari, Saturday, told Blueprint Sport that “It’s not going to be a walkover or a stroll in the park for Super Eagles though I expect them to win in Monrovia. It is never going to be easy because football has changed a lot and it has always been edgy and nervy playing some of these smaller countries like Cape Verde in the past and so many teams have always been tough.”

“Playing in a neutral ground as the away team, there will be a lot of antics and tactics by the home side to win so the Super Eagles must be ready to give their all to beat Sierra Leone and book the country ticket to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire the founder of FC Hearts said.

FC Hearts over the years has produced notable players like Macaulay Christanus and Musa Mohammed of Golden Eaglets fame.

“The Super Eagles must take the game with all seriousness. They have to fight very well to get a result. I wish them well but they must not be complacent,” Mouktar said.

Guinea Bissau currently sit atop Group A of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with 10 points from five games.

Nigeria is in second position on nine points from four games, while Sierra Leone sits in third spot on five points, also from four matches. Sao Tome and Principe brings up the rear with one point from five games.

A win for Super Eagles will qualify the Jose Peseiro’s side for next year AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
