Afelokhai hopeful of better outing

Kano Pillars captain, Joel Theophilus Afelokhai says they have learnt from the failures of last season in the CAF Champions League and are ready to do better in the competition.
The Pillars shot-stopper admits that it was a bad campaign for the Yellows in last year’s CAF Champions league but says lessons have been learnt and they are working towards having a much better campaign in 2015.
“We didn’t do well last season but we have learnt a lot of lessons from it,” he told sl10.ng. “It wasn’t the best of times for us in the Champions League but we hope to correct most those mistakes we made this time,” he said.
The Nigerian champions will play South Sudan’s Al Malakia in the first round of the competition and Afelokhai tells sl10.ng that inexperience was the major reason they exited the tournament so early last season.
“We were a little bit inexperienced last season and we didn’t win the games we should have won, but I hope things are different this time.”
Afelokhai may not be far from the truth, and in a bid to offer a better challenge next term, ‘Sai Mai su Gida’ have already begun recruitment of new players for the new season and are expected to have a training tour of South Africa, and the Super Eagles fringe goalie believes they are headed in the right direction.
“We have been signing some new players and hopefully they will make us better next season. If we get them playing at their best, then it will be to our advantage. The training tour of South Africa will also be good for us and I hope we get better results when the tournament begins,” he stressed.
